about
Who We Are
The Riske family has been at the heart of Los Sombreros since its
early days, blending family, community, and culinary passion into one
of Scottsdale’s most cherished dining destinations. Kurt Riske fell in
love with the restaurant shortly after its creation in 1996. While
working as servers in 2003, Kurt and his original partner helped open
the South Scottsdale location we all know and love today. Over the
years, Kurt’s dedication has helped the restaurant grow into a beloved
local institution, with several early team members still part of the
Los Sombreros family today.
Papa Chuck Riske and Kurt’s sister, Robin, serve as advisors to the
company. Kurt, Robin, and their late brother, Whit, were raised right
down the street, fostering deep roots in the community. Colleen Riske
touches Marketing, Catering and Employee Engagement, ensuring that the
family’s values shine through in every aspect of the restaurant.
The Riskes’ commitment to family extends beyond the business. Kurt and
Colleen live in Scottsdale with their two sons, Luke and Ty, who have
occasionally been known to shuck corn and peel shrimp in the kitchen.
Some of the family and many friends' most treasured celebrations have
taken place at Los Sombreros—moments made even more special by the
restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, and loyal
customers.
Kurt is also a dedicated philanthropist, bringing his South Scottsdale
roots to life through support of local charities throughout the year.
Together, the Riske family exemplifies the spirit of community,
family, and culinary excellence that makes Los Sombreros a Scottsdale landmark.
